Ommo

Every night leaves a trace.

Sleep tracking has turned rest into another thing to measure, optimize, and score. Ommo proposes a different relationship with sleep. A screen-free bracelet designed to wake you gently during light sleep, paired with a digital experience that translates each night into a unique visual trace rather than a number.

I conceived and directed the project across naming, product design, visual identity, digital experience, and campaign. I also coded the generative system behind the sleep visualizations and developed Trace Lab, a custom tool for experimenting with and art-directing the imagery.

The insight 23:58

Sleep tracking turned rest into a score. And a bad score keeps you up.

Sleep trackers promise better rest, but the data can become another source of pressure. Ommo started with a different idea: remove the judgment without losing the insight. No scores to improve, no streaks to maintain. Just a gentler way to wake up and a visual record of each night.

  1. The tension

When sleep becomes something to measure, even rest can feel like performance.

  2. The opportunity

Make sleep data meaningful without turning it into a judgment.

  3. The approach

A screen-free wearable that wakes gently and makes each night visible.

Product design 00:12

A quieter kind of wearable.

Ommo was designed to be worn through the night without demanding attention. The soft-touch bracelet replaces screens and buttons with a single frosted light window. Its flexible, overlapping construction eliminates the need for a clasp, while a gradual glow and gentle pulse are designed to wake the wearer during light sleep.

Every detail is considered around comfort, simplicity, and keeping technology in the background.

Generative system 03:58

One ring, every night.

I developed a custom generative system that translates sleep data into a visual language. Each night unfolds in five-minute intervals, with cobalt representing deep sleep, lilac for light sleep, and pink for dreams. Recalled dreams appear as fragmented letterforms scattered along the ring.

The system was designed around one principle: a restless night should look different, not worse.

  1. Sun 12 Oct5h 51m

    Short

The ring closes early. The dreams still came, in pink.

  2. Mon 13 Oct7h 48m

    Deep

Cobalt runs thick through the first hours, then long dreams after six.

  3. Tue 14 Oct5h 18m

    Restless

Five wakes break the line into dashes. Different, never worse.

  4. Wed 15 Oct8h 02m

    Calm

One soft loop, almost no breaks. Steady until morning.

  5. Thu 16 Oct7h 36m

    Vivid

Long dreams after four, with glyphs rising out of the pink.

App design 07:18

A different way to look at sleep.

The app was designed to make sleep data feel less clinical and more personal. Each morning, it translates the previous night into a generative image and a simple written observation. Over time, these images become a visual archive of sleep, without scores, streaks, or pressure to improve.

  1. The bracelet wakes you during a light-sleep window, with your night’s trace ready when you reach for your phone.

  2. Sleep data becomes a unique generative composition, reflecting the rhythm and patterns of each night.

  3. A short observation accompanies each image, making the data easier to understand without reducing sleep to a score.

  4. Each night becomes part of a visual collection, revealing patterns across weeks and months.

  5. Every trace can become a shareable visual, with the choice always left to the user.

Brand system 07:30

Your rest, made visible.

Ommo’s visual identity is built around a generative system that transforms each night’s sleep into a unique composition. The system extends across the app, website, posters, and social content, creating a cohesive visual language that continuously evolves while remaining recognizable.

Different every night.Never worse.
